Urine is a naturally sterile product containing NPK at a ratio of 10:1:4 making it a natural fertilser and containing the same nutrients as shop bought plant food. It should be watered down at 10 parts water to one part urnine and applied to the soil at the base of the plants.
Urine separators are a vital component in composting toilet systems as they divert urine away from solid waste at source. Not only does this keep the run off clean and sterile for use as a fertiliser but if the compost is too wet it pushes out the oxygen stopping the aerobic composting process. They also reduce odours, and improve the overall performance of the toilet.
